The new AVG Free 2011

- one possible cause of the fax program problem could have been the anti-virus prog, but when I tried to stop it the AVG management prog wouldn't open. It just gave me a message saying this version has expired.

So I had to install the new version just to be sure I could stop it running.

AVG Free 2011 does seem OK, but it does give a few strange warnings ..it detects a virus in c:apps which is installed at the same time so surely it was installed by AVG to test it's own system.

when you leave the PC for a while AVG runs and then detects other viruses in the Restore files , presumably these are the template files for the old AVG or Spybot prog.

Fax problem in Microsoft XP - fix in msconfig

I have to one simple thing yet problems means it takes 2 hours . This is happening so often with PCs

I just had to send a quick fax, but suddenly the fax program just didn't work anymore.

Normally make an image file of the document I have to send and use the Fax prog in XP acessories/communication/fax.

but it just sat there doing nothing.. eventually it timed out with an error message.

The modem was working so it's not the cables.

- so I reinstalled the fax program from Add new program in control panel - MS progs

- still same problem

- I had a brainwave and checked to see if the fax service was running in Msconfig.. and I found it was unchecked ..when I checked it everything came back and it worked.

but now I have a strange new problem ... when I installed the fax program ..the other programs in accessories like Wordpad were removed ... and when I go back to Control Panel and reinstall them ..it de-installs the fax program

must be something to do with the new version of AVG free not liking to work with Spybot
